The federal court in Aberdeen will hold a hearing Monday on whether Itawamba Agricultural High School must have its prom.

Judge Glen Davidson will rule on an injunction filed by the ACLU to prevent the Itawamba County School District from canceling the Itawamba AHS prom.

The district announced last week it would no longer hold its April 2 prom. The district’s statement came after the ACLU of Mississippi sent a letter demanding it change its prohibition of same-sex dates.

The injunction that will go before the court on Monday also calls for the district to allow senior Constance McMillen to bring a “same-sex date” to the dance and to wear a tuxedo to it.

The hearing will begin at 10 a.m.
