Agreeing on the revenue is a key step in reaching an overall budget agreement.
After that agreement was reached, bot chambers voted Thursday without a dissenting vote to finish by early next week all the work except the budget and recess for 30 days. Legislators hope in that time they will learn whether the Congress is going to approve legislation that will provide an additional $187 million in stimulus funds to plug budget holes.
The House had tried the previous two days to recess for 30 days to see if the state received the extra stimulus funds. But the effort, which requires a two-thirds vote, was blocked by House Republicans who said they wanted an agreement on the revenue between House and Senate leaders before recessing.
The extra stimulus funds is needed to plug budget because of the historic drop in tax collections.
