According to Lee County Coroner Carolyn Gillentine-Green, the man identified as Cecil Ellison, 63, died from an apparent fall that may have been the result of an existing medical condition.
Ellison was found in his home at 101 Adams St. by police about 11:30 a.m. after a welfare concern call at the residence.
“We are pretty sure at this point the death was caused by the fall,” said Gillentine-Green.
Until the full autopsy report is completed, Tupelo Police Capt. Chuck Bunn said the case remains open.
“All of the evidence collected supports the preliminary autopsy report of it being an accident, but we still have to make sure it was,” said Bunn. “We’ll keep this case open until the full report tells us that this was an accident.”
Because of the blood at the scene, Ellison’s death has been investigated as a crime.
