Every year, the Mississippi Chapter of the National Museum of Women in the Arts holds a luncheon somewhere in the state.
That luncheon will come to the GumTree Museum on April 13, but it seemed silly to limit the event to one day.
“I wanted to extend that to have a month-long exhibit,” said Tina Lutz, director of the GumTree Museum.
It’ll be a multi-faceted show, including paintings, sculptures, jewelry and mixed media works.
“It’s been exciting as the art work has come in,” Lutz said.
The exhibit will be on display throughout April. A free reception will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, and several of the artists are expected to attend.
“I’m sure they’ll be glad to answer any questions people might have,” Lutz said.
In addition, the April 13 luncheon is open to the public. It’ll start at noon, and tickets are $30 each.
“This is the first time the luncheon will happen in Tupelo,” Lutz said. “A lot of the artists will be here that day.
It’s another chance to meet some of Mississippi’s great artists.”
Some pieces will be for sale with 10 percent of proceeds benefiting the National Museum of Women in the Arts and another 10 percent benefiting the GumTree Museum.
“People should come down and see this. There’s a lot of great work,” Lutz said. “All of the work is going to be high quality. I think people will see art that is a surprise to them.”
