“There was not anybody there we would consider to be there on anything but a positive note,” said Kay Cobb, one of the organizers. “Our speakers were well received.”
Organizers of the Saturday-morning event at Avent Park had secured nearly 200 copies of the U.S. Constitution to give to attendees. With a limit of one per family, all were claimed.
“We thought it was very good for our first time out,” Cobb said.
The Oxford group has purposefully stayed independent of umbrella Tea Party organizations. Although candidates were not invited to speak at Saturday’s inaugural event, its leaders will meet later this month to determine their next purpose, possibly including holding a forum or debate featuring candidates for the state’s First Congressional District seat.
