Petal says goodbye to killed soldier

PETAL — A Petal native killed this month in Iraq was laid to rest over the weekend.

The body of Spc. William Anthony Blount was carried from his hometown of Petal on Saturday to Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg for services and burial.

Blount, age 21, was killed on April 7 in Mosul, Iraq, in a roadside bomb explosion.

The Hattiesburg American reports that hundreds turned out in Petal, Hattiesburg and Lamar County during Blount's procession on Saturday.
