Their biggest remaining task is to pass a $5.5 billion budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1. Leaders hope to vote on budget bills in the next few days.
Legislators also are trying to authorize the state Department of Employment Security to stay in existence beyond June 30.
And, senators are considering nominations to several boards and commissions and for some jobs, including Tom Burnham's return as state superintendent of education. Burnham led Mississippi's public schools for five years in the 1990s and returned in January.
