BRUCE - A 10-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy at the site of an alleged "shake and bake" meth lab in Calhoun County early Tuesday morning were turned over to the state Department of Human Services, according to a Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics official.

The children were at 406 N. Tyson St., the residence of 34-year-old Jeffery Free, where MBN agents, Calhoun County deputies and Bruce police officers serving a search warrant allegedly seized methamphetamine, meth precursors and marijuana, MBN Director Marshall Fisher said.

Fisher said Free and 21-year-old Brittany Gann of Pittsboro, who also was at Free's residence, are charged with possession of methamphetamine, manufacture of methamphetamine and child endangerment.

If convicted on the charges, Free and Gann face stiffer penalties because the alleged offenses occurred within 1,500 feet of a church, Fisher said.

The suspects are being held in the Calhoun County Jail, awaiting initial court appearances.
