BLUE SPRINGS – Law enforcement authorities have identified the victim of this weekend's shooting in Blue Springs as 40-year-old Kim Cox.

Union County authorities have arrested Cox’s estranged husband David Cox, Sr., 39, in connection with the shooting. Union County Sheriff Tommy Wilhite said Cox has not been formally charged, but is being held for capital murder and three counts of kidnapping.

The incident took place at 2214 Hwy. 178 East Blue Springs.

There were two children, one a girl and one a boy, in the house. One of the children was Cox Sr.'s biological child and the other his stepchild.

Sherman Police responded to the call at about 6:30 p.m. Friday.

At the request of the Union County Sheriff’s Department and Sherman Police Department the Tupelo Police Department SWAT team and negotiator made entry into the home at about 3:30 this morning.

Kim Cox had already been shot to death before officers entered, but the children were rescued.

The suspect is in the Union County Jail.
