Northeast's Hatfield in hunt at national golf tournament

Blake Hatfield of Northeast shot a 5-under 67 on Wednesday and moved into a tie for second place at the NJCAA Division II golf tournament.

Hatfield, from Booneville, has a 4-under total of 140, two strokes behind leader Ryan Mahoney (71-67–138) of Mesa College. Hatfield ranked 24th nationally after winning the MACJC state championship.

Alex Rowland of ICC, who started the day in a three-way tie for second, shot a 72 and is tied for fifth, four shots off the lead.

The four-round tournament continues today at Palm Valley Golf Club.
