OXFORD – Based on a near-disaster that turned out to be serendipitous, Oxford’s popular Double Decker Festival next year will be scheduled as a two-day event.

Before this year, Double-Decker was a Saturday-only festival that includes bike and foot races in the early morning; arts, crafts and local music from mid-morning to late afternoon; and concerts with regional and national headliners at night.

Bad weather forced cancellation of the original April 24 date for this year’s festival. When the weather cleared up by mid-afternoon, however, festival organizers decided to go ahead on Saturday night with the headlining acts, which could not be rescheduled.

Organizers have suggested separating Double Decker into Friday-night concerts, with arts, crafts and races on Saturday. The move would enabling the festival to charge admission for the concerts and thus secure higher-profile acts.
