SHANNON – A man turned himself in Wednesday night in connection with an afternoon shooting in Shannon.

Authorities had a warrant out for Cary Newcomb, 21, on an aggravated assault charge. Sheriff Jim Johnson said Newcomb is accused of shooting a 45-year-old Shannon man in the face with a shotgun while the man was driving past his house on County Road 295.

The man was hit in the face with two pellets from the shotgun and was treated at the North Mississippi Medical Center for minor injuries and released shortly after. Johnson said it is unclear what caused the shooting.
