Two Lee County men have been charged with possession and uttering (or passing) counterfeit money after they passed the fake money at three different businesses in Pontotoc recently.

Arrested in the matter was Nicholas Deangelo Berry, 37, 2520 Crump Street, Tupelo. He is charged with possession and uttering counterfeit money. He is under a $30,000 bond. Berry also has prior felony convictions which are satisfied.

William August Smith, 31, 162 Top Lane, Tupelo is under the same charges with a $15,000 bond.

“One of the business owners happened to see the car as it left and called the dispatch and gave a description of it and the men,” said Pontotoc City Police Chief Larry Poole.

The businesses that received the counterfeit bills were Pontotoc Food and Gas, Pioneer Credit and Loan, and Dinomart #1.
