PONTOTOC - County supervisors granted the tax assessor a 30-day extension for getting them crucial information for setting a budget.

Van McWhirter recently asked and received an extension for presenting tax rolls.

The tax assessor is supposed to present the board the tax rolls by the end of June so the county leaders will know how much money can be expected over the next year.

Now the budgeting process will begin in August.

County budgets are normally approved by the first meeting of September and go into effect Oct. 1.
