Grant Gardner was officially hired as Ripley High’s new head boys basketball coach on Thursday.

Gardner, 37, replaces Trent Adair who resigned after two seasons to take a teaching position in Tupelo.

Gardner was the head boys basketball coach at Nettleton the past nine seasons. He also coached the Nettleton girls team for two seasons.

The Nettleton boys team posted back-to-back 25-5 seasons the past two years.

Gardner began his coaching career in South Tippah County, coaching Blue Mountain for two seasons before moving on to Kossuth, where he coached for two seasons.

His 2000 Aggies team advanced to the state semifinals and finished the season with a 31-8 record.

“I started at South Tippah and I’m going to end at South Tippah,” Gardner said Thursday afternoon.
