TUPELO - Former Tupelo police recruit Latana Williams will appeal dismissal of her federal discrimination lawsuit.

Monday, U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock threw out Williams' lawsuit against the city of Tupelo. Williams, an African-American, accused the Tupelo Police Department of blocking her entry to the force because of her sex and race.

Jim Waide, her attorney, filed notice late Monday that she will take her claims to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.

In 2008, Williams failed two parts of her training and was deemed not qualified to be employed by TPD.
