STARKVILLE – Two days before Mississippi State's season opener, coach Dan Mullen named his starting quarterback and tailback.

During his weekly radio show Thursday night, Mullen said junior Chris Relf will start at QB, and junior Robert Elliott has the nod at tailback when MSU kicks off against Memphis at 6 p.m. Saturday in Starkville.

The more experienced Relf has been battling redshirt freshman Tyler Russell for the starting job, and Mullen said both will play this week. Elliott, of Okolona, has two years of backup duty under his belt and will share carries with Vick Ballard and LaDarius Perkins.
