Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal - Alabama man charged in slaying of elderly woman

JACKSON — Mississippi authorities have filed capital murder charges against an Alabama man last seen with a Clinton woman who turned up missing and was later found dead in Edwards.

Hinds County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Jeffrey Scott says warrants were being sent Tuesday to Lee County, Ala., where 39-year-old James Cobb Hutto was being held. Hutto was arrested Friday driving Ethel Simpson’s Mercedes.

The 81-year-old Simpson was last seen on Sept. 13 when she and Hutto were leaving a casino in Vicksburg. Her body was recovered in Edwards on Friday.

Hutto was being held in Alabama on attempted murder and robbery for stabbing a man there.
