The grant of $117,666 to hire one Ripley officer is part of $1.5 million awarded under the Community-Oriented Policing hiring program, announced Sen. Thad Cochran.
The grant provides 100 percent funding for an entry-level position with benefits for three years, and supports a full-time sworn officer.
Other cities receiving hiring grants under the program include Columbus, $518,697 for three officers; Bay St. Louis, $149,788 for one officer; Charleston, $99,786 for one officer; Duck Hill, $115,315 for one officer; Laurel, $290,166 for two officers; Philadelphia, $113,860 for one officer; and Shuqualak, $95,648 for one officer.
