BLACKLAND – Catherine Hughes Koon passed peacefully in her sleep at her home at 7:55 a.m. on Oct. 6, 2010, after a long illness. She was a member of the Jumpertown Church of Christ and a retired factory worker.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Terry Roberts and Bro. Calvin Barber officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Survivors include two children, Jennie Ballard (Truman) and Cecil Koon Jr. (Louise), both of the Blackland community; one sister, Quida Hughes Parker of Pascagoula; three brothers, Donald Marion “Don” Hughes (Liz) of Hazelhurst, Eugene Hughes and Wade Hughes (Linda) of Jumpertown; special friend, Cathy Hrecko; four grandchildren, Richie Koon (Debbie) of Belleville, Ill., Karen Lott (Duncan) of Booneville, Kathy Ballard Aycock (Anthony) of Blackland and Terry Ballard (Jennifer) of Mooreville; 11 great-grandchildren, Jason Aycock, Justin Aycock (Haley), Heather Ballard Williams (Josh), Corey Ballard, Zane Lott, Kristen Koon, Cody Koon, Ben Kingsley, Betsy Kingsley, Casey Lott (Amanda) and Bryce Lott; three great-great-grandchildren, Garrett Williams, Audrey Williams and Cade Lott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Koon; her parents, Leonard and Frences Lauderdale Hughes; three brothers, Robert Hughes, Bill Hughes and Leonard “Noon” Hughes; and one brother-in-law, Durwood Parker.
Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.

CALHOUN CITY - Tammy Lynette Cooper, 37, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at the Grenada Lake Medical Center. She was born Dec. 5, 1972, in Greenwood. She was an employee of Bowater Paper Mill in Grenada and a Baptist.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City with the Rev. John Ward officiating. Burial will be in Elzey Cemetery in Vardaman.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Edward Fisk, and her grandparents, Noel and Josephine Criddle.

OXFORD - Frances Hillman Mitchell, 92, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010. Born to Inez and George W. Hillman in Bessemer, Ala., in 1918, she graduated from Sheffield High School in Sheffield, Ala., in 1934. She was married for 66 years to the late Henry R. Mitchell Jr. Mrs. Mitchell was active in the ministry of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She was a published poet, an accomplished seamstress, gardener and sailor. She had a true servant's heart which sprang from a life devoted to Christ.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Taylor Moore and the Rev. Penny Sisson officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her children, Henry R. Mitchell III (Debbie) of Ocean Springs, Jane Mitchell Mazurkiewicz (Bob) of Canton, Ga., and Paul D. Mitchell (Joyce) of Oxford; her sisters, Marie Smith and Betty Chambers of Florence, Ala., and Madeline Foust of Charlotte, N.C.; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother and two sisters.

OKOLONA - Marion Hansel Crane, 58, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. Mr. Crane was born in Pontotoc County on April 14, 1952, to Grafton and Ophelia Brassfield Crane. He grew up in the Longview community and had lived the last 35 years in Chickasaw County. He worked many years in law enforcement with the Chickasaw County Sheriff's Department. He was formerly Town Marshall for Verona and was employed by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. Before becoming disabled, he was a truck driver in the logging industry. He was a member of the Carnation Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Eric Boykin officiating. Burial will follow in the Longview Cemetery in Pontotoc County. Holland Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

NEW ALBANY - William Major "Bill" Tucker, 48, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. He was born Nov. 26, 1961, in Jackson to Reba Tubbs Tucker and the late Major Edwin Tucker. He was the owner/operator of The Windshield Doctor. Mr. Tucker was the vice mayor and the Ward 4 alderman of New Albany and a member of New Albany Rotary Club. He was on the board of directors of the Union County Development Association, Main Street Board, Union County Heritage Museum and the Mississippi Municipal League. He was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of First Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of New Albany with Rev. Rickey Blythe officiating. Burial will be in Vista Memorial Park in New Albany. United Funeral Service will be in charge of arrangements.
