TUPELO - Democratic incumbent congressional candidate U.S. Rep. Travis Childers listened to the concerns of about one dozen senior citizens at City Hall on Friday.

The hour-long roundtable replaced AARP's political debate that was canceled after GOP challenger Alan Nunnelee declined to participate, citing time constraints. The debate would have been held Friday.

The meeting was the second stop on Childers' "Putting North Mississippi First" working tour.

Childers also was recognized by U.S. English Inc. for his votes in support of English as the nation's unifying language.
