The man's name is Joe Wheeler, according to witnesses who knew him at the scene. Wheeler walks with a cane and had almost made it across the tracks when he was hit, a witness said. He suffered damage to his right leg, according to the Tupelo Police Department.
Wheeler was taken to the North Mississippi Medical Center.
Traffic was briefly stopped on Park Street, but traffic is moving again on Park Street and Crosstown.
