Pollan tells WTVA-TV in Tupelo that the system is like a pay phone but with some unique features.
Pollan says his department can listen to the phone calls and monitor them.
It's all new hardware and equipment and Pollan says the jail is a lot safer.
Pollan says deputies have used the system to catch inmates trying to get people to smuggle things in for them — such as throwing tobacco products or cell phones over into the exercise yard.
Pollan says the department gets a percentage of every call made from the jail.
The system comes from Securas Technology of Ridgeland, Miss.
