SALTILLO – Depraved-heart murder defendant Thomas Ward is in jail on $250,000 bond after authorities say he led them on a high-speed chase Monday.

District Attorney Trent Kelly said Ward was charged with felony fleeing and his office may seek a revocation of Ward’s $500,000 bond on the murder charge.

Ward of Saltillo is scheduled to go on trial May 1 in Lee County in the shooting death of Anna McCoy.

Tuesday, he appeared before Lee County Justice Court Judge Pat Carr, who set the bond.

Saltillo police reports say Ward passed Chief Steve Brooks’ patrol car in a no-passing zone and then led officers on a chase, sometimes at 100 miles per hour.

McCoy was a 20-year-old community college soccer player in 2010 when she was found shot in the head inside Ward’s home.
