TUPELO – The City Council on Tuesday approved a $4,000 increase on the historic Spain House relocation project due to additional foundation costs.

Members voted 4-3 on the increase. Objecting were Ward 5 Councilman Jonny Davis, Ward 6 Councilman Mike Bryan and President Fred Pitts of Ward 2. The city has committed to paying $25,000 toward the project as part of a $175,000 state matching grant.

Any cost overruns will be incurred by the nonprofit arm of the Tupelo Historic Preservation Commission, said member Doyce Deas.
