Ward 1 Alderman Andrew “Bubba” Labas made the motion that was seconded by District 3 Supervisor Tim Mitchell. District 2 Supervisor Dal Nelms was absent, and Ward 2 Alderman Ben Albarracin voted against the motion, and all other board members voted to support the move.
The meeting had been called by the two government groups who asked members of the Corinth Area Convention and Visitors Bureau/tourism board to meet to discuss operations and budget issues.
Corinth Area CVB Executive Director Kristy White, accompanied by tourism board Chairman Luke Doehner, told the supercommittee that a quorum of board members were not available to meet for various reasons with the meeting immediately following the holidays. She asked on behalf of the tourism board that the meeting be rescheduled for Jan. 15, the date of the tourism board’s regularly scheduled meeting.
By not following the line item budget that the supercommittee voted on for the tourism board in September 2012, Labas said he had lost confidence in the tourism board and offered the motion.
Asked by Albarracin how the tourism office would operate until new board members could be appointed, Labas said there were many qualified individuals who could serve and said they should be able to appoint a new board within a couple of weeks.
The Corinth board meets at 4:30 p.m. today in its regular work session and 5 p.m. in regular meeting. Both meetings were postponed one day for the New Year’s holiday.
