COLUMBUS — Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt has been fined and placed on probation after pleading guilty Tuesday to one count of driving under the influence.

The Commercial Dispatch reports that Hunt entered the plea Tuesday in Lowndes County Justice Court.

The charge stems from a Nov. 8 traffic stop in Columbus that resulted in Hunt's arrest for first-offense DUI and careless driving.

A judge dismissed the careless driving charge.

Prosecutors say the 46-year-old Hunt was ordered to pay $897 in fines and sentenced to six months' probation which includes mandatory Mississippi Alcohol Safety Education Program classes and random drug and alcohol testing.
