Mississippi State’s Craig Sword is off to a hot start in SEC play, and it’s earned him the league’s freshman of the week honor.

Sword is averaging 17 points and 3.5 rebounds in MSU’s first two SEC games, both wins. The 6-foot-3 guard had a career-high 18 points in Wednesday’s 56-54 win over South Carolina, then notched 16 points, four rebounds and two steals in a 72-61 victory at Georgia.

On the season, Sword is averaging 9.6 points and has a team-high 28 steals.

He’s the second Bulldog to earn the freshman honor this season. Center Gavin Ware won it Dec. 24.
