WTVA-TV in Tupelo reports that the sirens cost $18.000 each. Each town paid the full amount and each was reimbursed 75 percent with Hazardous Mitigation Grant money.
Chickasaw County Emergency Management Agency Director Linda Griffin says new sirens replace those that had worn out.
She says the sirens benefits those working in Houston and Okolona and also the residential area. She says schools are located near each of the sirens as well as day cares facilities.
Also, officials say the new sirens are two to three times louder than the old ones.
