ECRU – Mississippi Department of Transportation Enforcement officers stopped a car hauler transporting used vehicles Monday morning in Ecru for a routine safety inspection, during which they became suspicious of a tool box attached to a pickup truck.

Officers from the Ecru Police Department and the Union County K-9 officer arrived to assist the MDOT officers. The K-9 indicated the presence or recent presence of contraband to the officers. The vehicle was searched, and officers located a large duffle bag packed with plastic wrapped money amounting to $646,050 in the tool box. No drugs were located during the search.

Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics officers are investigating the origin and destination of the cash. The driver was released and the cash seized pending results of the investigation.
