At least a dozen people have documented incidents of harassment by the officer in question, said NAACP spokesman Milus Copeland, who was accompanied by several city residents.
Complaints Copeland cited ranged from serving a warrant at a residence at about 1:30 a.m., then conducting a search of the residence without a warrant and driving along a street after dark in a predominantly black neighborhood and shining a bright searchlight on people who were simply sitting on their front porch.
Copeland asked the board to check out the complaints thoroughly, and offered written documentation as any query proceeds.
City attorney Wendell Trapp said discussion of the matter by the board would need to be conducted in executive session since it involved the name and reputation of a city employee.
