City Engineer Bart Robinson said the lot was owned by a family who changed their minds about building a home on the undeveloped land. Wishing not to pay taxes on the property indefinitely, he said, they offered it to the city.
Mayor George “Pat” Patterson expressed appreciation for the donation and added, “We will also clean this lot up and benefit the neighborhood.”
Alderman Janice Anto-now, whose ward includes the area, said, “There are a lot of families in Shiloh now, and it would be nice to have a park there.”
