TUPELO – Larger recycling bins will be on the table as the Tupelo City Council prepares to move forward on a residential waste collection contract.

At its Tuesday work session, the council discussed elements that it wants to include in requests for proposals for residential solid waste collection, which will go out in early March.

Council members unanimously favored including the larger, rolling recycling bins for all households in the request for proposals, based on citizen feedback. They also requested that the proposals include price quotes based on the current schedule – trash pick up twice a week and recycling once every other week – as well as an alternative – one trash pick up and one recycling pick up each week.

The council anticipates proposals from multiple companies; public feedback is welcomed.
