The Daily Corinthian reports that the petition needed 2,592 signatures of qualified voters and reached 2,601 recently.
Charles "Tubby" Aldridge, the petition organizer, says he wants a cushion of 100 extra names in case it is challenged.
After signatures are validated, county supervisors would set an election date.
Aldridge believes too much tax money on beer and liquor sales leaves the county. He believes voters will say "yes" to alcohol.
A new state law allows city-only votes on liquor.
Aldridge opted to stick with a county-wide vote even though liquor and wine can be sold only within municipality.
