STARKVILLE — A house fire has claimed the life of an elderly Starkville woman and injured another person.

Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt says it appears 86-year old Mary Elizabeth Foster died of smoke inhalation Thursday. Hunt says while foul play is not suspected, her body has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy.

Another person who was also in the house at the time was transported to OCH Regional Medical Center. His name and condition have not been released.

Starkville Fire Chief Rodger Mann says there was smoke and heat damage throughout the structure but the fire damage was contained to two bedrooms.

Mann says the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
