With spring break this week and Easter weekend in two weeks, that left one free weekend in March.
It was so perfect, just about every arts organization in town set a spring concert, performance or event for the weekend of March 21-23.
This convergence of events has led to Art Rocks Tupelo, a weekend full of the arts in Tupelo.
“We decided as a community to work together,” said Melanie Deas, executive director of the Link Centre, who has helped facilitate this unprecedented weekend. “We’re incorporating music, theater, dance, the visual arts, film and culinary arts into one weekend. It’s almost like a New York theater weekend in Tupelo.”
The Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau has helped facilitate everything to bring more arts fans into the city.
Tickets are on sale to individual events, but patrons can also purchase discounted ticket packages for three to six events. If you’re a season ticket holder, your tickets are still good for a package deal.
More information and tickets are available online at artrockstupelo.com.
“Arts patrons are arts patrons, not necessarily just patrons of one thing,” Deas said. “We hope they’re willing to see six things in one weekend. It’s exciting, because there’s so much to do.”
It’ll be a busy weekend for sure, but Deas said it’s “serendipitous that the calendar gave us the opportunity to do something we’ve only talked about before. We hope it will expand in the future.”
