NASHVILLE – Ole Miss won its first SEC semifinal since 2001 without one of its key players: starting point guard Jarvis Summers.

The sophomore from Jackson sustained a concussion late in the Missouri game when he caught an elbow to the head.

His status for today’s noon tip against Florida is unclear.

“A lot of testing will go on between now and tomorrow to see if he can go,” Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said. “We’ll do what the doctors tell us.”

Freshman Derrick Millinghaus, the hero against Missouri with a game-tying 3-pointer and a winning shot on a floater in the lane with 1.1 seconds left, played 19 minutes and did not score. He was 0-for-5 from the floor, 0-for-4 from 3-point range.

Rebels and Gators

Ole Miss lost 78-64 when the two teams met in Gainesville on Groundhog Day. Florida was ranked No. 4 at the time.

The Gators hurt Ole Miss with 6-foot-10 Erik Murphy stepping outside and hitting 3-pointers. He was 5-for-6 from the arc.

Florida has beaten LSU and Alabama to reach today’s title game.

Player of the Game

Reggie Buckner was only 3-for-11 from the free throw line but was 6-for-7 from the field and finished with 15 points and nine rebounds in 31 minutes.

Quotable

“You guys don’t mind, do you? Reg has to give a free throw clinic for young people in Nashville.” – Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy as Reggie Buckner was exiting the stage during the post-game news conference.
