Bruce Rogers, 40, of County Road 136, was arrested by deputies Monday night in connection with a September 14, home invasion, kidnapping and sexual assault.
“We developed this suspect by talking to people in the community, running down countless leads and from DNA evidence,” said Chickasaw County Chief Deputy James Myers. “At this point I feel we have gotten our man.”
Myers pointed out the rape and kidnapping charges can be prosecuted as capital crimes and, upon conviction, can result in life in prison.
“These kind of cases are made a top priority and we are glad to tell the community we have made an arrest,” said Myers. “Our investigators stayed on top of this and put in a lot of time on this case. I do want to thank the community for their patience and their help in solving this crime.”
Myers said Rogers is currently being held in the Chickasaw County Jail under no bond. He said a preliminary hearing would probably occur in November and the case would be presented to the February term of the Chickasaw County Grand Jury.
Myers said case began with a woman reporting someone had broken into her home just after midnight, forced her to leave her home at gunpoint and that she was assaulted.
“He later let her go and ran away on foot,” said Myers. “She told us it was dark and he had his face covered and she was obviously traumatized by the event.”
Myers said deputies are still checking into a few details, but they do not think anyone else was involved at this time.
Myers said at the time it was reported that authorities felt the assault was an isolated incident and nothing similar has been reported in Chickasaw County. Myers did urge resident to always keep their doors and windows locked and to call authorities if they see or hear anything suspicious.
