There will be some changes made to the high school football season this fall, including an end to 7:30 p.m. kickoffs in August and September.

Mississippi High School Activities Association officials confirmed on Friday that all games will kick off at 7 p.m.

“This takes away any confusion about kickoff times and also will allow teams and fans to get home a little earlier,” MHSAA executive director Don Hinton said in a statement. “We talked with our MHSAA sports medicine advisory committee and there wasn’t any real difference in terms of heat being more of a factor at 7 p.m. compared to 7:30 p.m.”

Fall practice will begin Aug. 5, with “Classic” games on Aug. 23 and the first week of the regular season on Aug. 30 – all a week later than in 2012.

In addition, the MHSAA will do away with the mandatory bye weeks for Classes 6A, 5A and 1A.
