OXFORD - Annie Mae Greene Smith, 89, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at her home in Oxford. Mrs. Smith was born in Dyer, Tenn. She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was very active in her Sunday School class and in the Carroll Barr Circle. She was a Pink Lady for Oxford-Lafayette County Hospital Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Smith.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Oxford with Rev. John Semmes and Rev. Jonathan Scanlon officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles D. Evans
IUKA - Charles Dwayne Evans, 69, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. Mr. Evans graduated from Smithville High School in 1958. He then earned his B.S., M.Ed. and Educational Specialist degrees from Mississippi State University. He was an educator. He began his teaching career in Shannon. He also taught at Hatley Elementary and later served as principal of Furlow Elementary in Americas, Ga. He moved to Iuka in 1970 where he served as principal at Iuka Elementary School for 30 years prior to his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Iuka Baptist Church, were he served in different capacities. He was a longtime member of the Rotary Club, where he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow and served as residence. He also served as president of the Iuka Jaycees. He served as Boy Scout Master of Troop 26 in Iuka for many years. He was a member of the Tishomingo County Retired Teachers' Association and has served on the North Mississippi Medical Center - Iuka Hospital Board from 1997 until present. He was the recipient of the prestigious Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award given by the Yocona Area Council. He loved to travel. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. He liked to keep in contact with his former students and enjoyed hearing of their successes. The joy of his life was spending time with his grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at the Iuka Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim Manley, Dr. Ronnie Hatfield, Elder Clinton Barnett and Rev. Stanley Magill will officiate. A committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at New Salem Cemetery in Fulton with interment to follow. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Wanda Christian Evans; two sons, Charles Christian Evans and John D. Evans and wife, Jennie, all of Iuka; one sister, Linda Evans Adams and husband, Kenny, of Amory; three grandchildren, Jacob Owen "Jake" Evans, Anne Christian "Annie" Evans and Lucas Reed "Luke" Evans, all of Iuka; and one nephew, Evan Adams of Foley, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen H. and Daphne Elliott Evans.

WAUCHULA, Fla. - Mary Katherine Saldivar, 60, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at Hope Hospice in Sebring, Fla. She was born Aug. 10, 1950, in New Albany and had been a resident of Hardee County, Fla., for more than 40 years. She attended the First United Methodist Church of Sebring, Fla. She was employed at G. Pierce Wood Hospital as a supervisor and Human Service worker.
Services were Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Robarts Garden Chapel with the Rev. A.C. Bryant officiating. Burial was in Bowling Green Cemetery. Robarts Family Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Tammy Chaundy of Sebring, Fla.; three sons, Ramon Romero III and Johnny Saldivar, both of Bowling Green, Fla., and Christopher Saldivar of Wauchula, Fla.; three brothers, Ricky Todd of Bartow, Fla., Johnny Todd of Bowling Green, Fla., and Wayne Higgins of Nettleton; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Todd, and a sister, Carolyn Stinson.

PONTOTOC - Sadie Mae McGuirt Hester, 87, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Sunshine Healthcare in Pontotoc. A native of Pontotoc County, she was the daughter of Wilson and Lola McGuirt. She was a member of Usher Valley United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She loved quilting, talking on the telephone, gardening and sitting on her porch in the summer time. She was the widow of Joe Hester.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Usher Valley United Methodist Church in Algoma. The Rev. Maurice Smith will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be at East County Line Cemetery in Houlka. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

MCCOMB - Evelyn Ernestine Furr Young, 85, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at Wisteria Gardens in Pearl, where she had lived for two years. She was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Stephenson, now known as Crosby. She was the daughter of Earnest and Alice Scarborough Furr. She spent her early years in Wesson and graduated from Wesson High School. She attended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. She moved to Pascagoula and worked at Ingalls Ship Yard during World War II. She married Charles F. Young of Wesson on March 5, 1946. They moved to McComb, where she worked at Mechanics Bank in 1948. She retired from Deposit Guaranty in 1983. She was a member of the North McComb Baptist Church and the Elizabeth Brent Sunday School Class. She was an active member of her bank retirees club.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Charles F. "Smokey" Young and Sharon of Tupelo; daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Young Parker and Glenn of Brandon; grandchildren, Blake Young and wife, Marleigh, Elise Young, Jake Parker and Ben Parker; great-granddaughter, Olivia Parker; special family friends, the Parker family, the Edwards family, and Kim and Tasha Johnson.

BALDWYN - Edna Hardy Rice died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at the Baldwyn Nursing Facility. She was born Nov. 23, 1910, to Francis Palmer Hardy and Henry J. Hardy in the Pleasant Ridge Community. She was a member of First Baptist Church and she had worked for Blue Bell Mfg. for more than 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Norma Faye Whitaker; her husband, Clifford Rice; her parents; four brothers, Troy, Rutherford, Cecil and Luther Hardy; and two sisters, Willard and Annie Mabel Hardy, who died in childhood.

SALTILLO - Nannette Holliman Finney, 51, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born Sept. 21, 1959, in Meridian to John Dandridge and Johnnie Rigdon Holliman. She grew up in Okolona and lived her adult life in Saltillo. She graduated from Itawamba Community College. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Okolona. She worked in accounting at Stone Container before becoming disabled. Her passions were computer networking including creating and operating an online game, her dog, Ziggy, reading, arts and crafts, and arranging flowers. She loved her family dearly.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holland Funeral Directors-Okolona Chapel with Bro. Charles Overby and Bro. Eric Boykin officiating. A private graveside service will follow in East Chickasaw Memorial Garden.
Survivors include her two daughters, Rhiannon Shaw of El Centro, Calif., and Mary Elizabeth Finney of Saltillo; a son, Gregory Scott Finney II of Saltillo; and her mother, Johnnie R. Holliman of Okolona.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Holliman, on Nov. 6, 1996.

TUPELO - Hulon Max Wade, 82, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Darlington Oaks Hospice after a lengthy illness. He was born in Lee County on Oct. 31, 1928, to Frank and Bertha Wade. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the United States Army. He was a longtime member of Harmony Primitive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was the manager for Tupelo News and Bluff City News in Memphis for 34 years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, yard work, working in his shop, reading and watching sporting events.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Marshall Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park.
