Mildred Thomas

RIPLEY - Mildred Crum Thomas, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Tippah County Hospital Nursing Home in Ripley. She was born Oct. 2, 1920, to Rufus Ola Crum and Betty Childs Crum. Mrs. Thomas was a member of Springdale Baptist Church and a retired beautician.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randy Hamilton and Bro. Terry Hall officiating. Burial will be in Blue Mountain Cemetery.

She is survived by one daughter, Norma Newcomb (David) of Ripley; one son, Ola Thomas (Ann) of New Albany; one sister, Hazel Garrison of New Albany; six grandchildren, Wayne Dulaney (Renee) of Saltillo, Lori Carter (Billy) of Walnut, Lynn Alberson (Billy) of Ashland, Jason Thomas (Rachel) of New Albany, Michael Dulaney and Eric Thomas (Tammy), all of Ingomar; 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Oliver Thomas; one son, James O. Thomas Jr.; one sister, Opal Nance; two brothers, Jim Crum and Pete Crum; and a special friend, Bud Glenn.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Dulaney, Michael Dulaney, Johnathon Dulaney, Jason Thomas, Eric Thomas and Neal Alberson. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Alberson, Billy Carter, Tyler Thomas David Newcomb, Josh Smith and Jason Wilburn.

Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home.

Ronald Smith

WALNUT - Ronald Terry Smith, 56, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at his sister's residence in Walnut.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. today at Ripley Funeral Home.

Thurman McMillen

NEW ALBANY - Thurman McMillen, 89, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at his home following an extended illness. Born on April 24, 1922, he was the son of John Joseph Jackson McMillen and Arbelle McMillen, one of 10 children raised by his parents. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years and helped form the church's Boy Scout program. Earlier, while a member of Wallerville Baptist Church, he helped create the Union County Baptist Association.

Having spent his career as an insurance underwriter, Mr. McMillen began work at the now defunct New Albany Cheese Plant when he returned from military service with the United States Marine Corps. He was with the Marines when the United States invaded Guam and Iwo Jima. He was the lone man in his company to survive without being killed or wounded at Iwo Jima, where he saw the famous publicity photo of the U.S. flag being raised over Mt. Surabachi.

An avid crappie fisherman, he spent more than 50 years as a member of the American Legion Post 72. He also was a member of the Civitan Club and other civic organizations in Union County.

The funeral celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Funeral Service chapel with the Rev. Horace Thomas officiating, and military honors provided by American Legion Post 72. Burial will be in the Martin Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Corinna Belle Tackett McMillen; a brother, Travis McMillen; three children, Larry W. McMillen (Bettye), David Thurman McMillen and Kathy McMillen Allred (Mark); special friend, Jane McMillen; and eight grandchildren, Brian Cruz (Spaina), Ashleigh McMillen, Sarah Fayad (Rumzie), Laurie McMillen, Darah Knighton (Josh), William David McMillen, Anna Allred and Eliza Allred; and three great-grandchildren, Dacia, Logan and Aydin Cruz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Blanche, Verna, Mary Grace and Ruby; and four brothers, John, Lester, Fred and Edgar.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In honor of Mr. McMillen's service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the United States Marine Corps flag during his visitation and his service.

CORINTH - Anthony Paul Ford, 47, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Corinth. Burial will be in the Tippah Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Willie Kimmons

OXFORD - Willie James Kimmons, formerly of New Albany, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany.

John Earnest

VERONA - John Earnest, 67, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 31, 1944, in Itawamba County to Eulus and Ethel Earnest. He graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School. He was a self-employed machinist, owning and operating Earnest Machine Shop for many years. He was a longtime member of Verona First Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering with old guns, coin collecting and playing his guitar for friends and family. He loved spending time with his family and his dog, Abbee.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Hamilton and Bro. Terry Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Earnest of Verona; one son, Todd Ryan Earnest (Michelle) of Mantachie; one sister, Ann Parsons of Eureka, Calif.; three brothers, Gaddis Earnest (Erica) of Golden, Bobby Earnest (Betty) of Tupelo and Gary Earnest (Janet) of Plantersville; three grandchildren, Taylor Earnest, Katelyn Earnest and Blake Phillips; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Tracie Earnest; one brother, Leberon Earnest; and his mother-in-law, Pernie Andrews.

Pallbearers will be Keith Earnest, Derrick Earnest, Mark Young, Billy W. Riley, James Kuhn and Tommy Dale Holcomb.

Memorials may be made to the Tracie Earnest Memorial Fund at BancorpSouth.

Visitation will continue from noon to service time today.

OXFORD - Carol Jean Billingsley Alexander, 76, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - North Mississippi in Oxford.
