CLIO, Mich. - Clara L. Owens, 89, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at her residence. She was born Oct. 20, 1922, in Golden to James and Charity Martin Shook. She had been a resident of Clio, Mich., since 1963. She retired from AC Delco UAW 651. She attended the Community Church of God in Clio. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Services were Friday, Jan. 6, at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio, Mich. The Rev. Eddie Phillips officiated. Private burial was at Thetford Township Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Lanny Owens of Clio; six grandchildren, Lisa Diem, Bonnie Nau, Damien Owens, Jory Owens, Drew Owens and Tim Owens; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Claude (Evelyn) Shook of Golden; and a sister, Irene (Jerry) Owens of Golden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Shelton Owens; sons, Ronnie and Max Owens; and brothers, Selmer and Clyde Shook.

MYRTLE - Marvin Lee Hale, 64, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany. He was born Feb. 26, 1947, in Union County to George Washington Hale and Margaret Lucille Hale. He was a lifelong resident of Union County and a farmer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany with the Rev. David Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Enterprise Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Dewayne Hale (Melissa) of Baldwyn, David Hale of Etta and Chauncey Butler of Potts Camp; five daughters, Lisa Lumpkin of New Albany, Tammy Mayo (Kenneth) of Dumas, Jessie Davidson of Etta, Daisy Marie Hale and Maggie Hale, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Gerald D. Hale of West Union; four sisters, Louise Butler of West Union, Clara Dale Smith of Hickory Flat, Barbara Mason of New Albany and Patricia McDonald of Myrtle; the mother of his children, Betty Ann Self of Etta; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

BELDEN - Justin Matthew "IcyWyte" Gilland, 22, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center due to injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born in Tupelo on Aug. 29, 1989, to James "Lem" Gilland and Lisa Summers Gilland. He attended Tupelo High School and was employed by Ashley Furniture Manufacturing where he worked in shipping and receiving. He loved music of all kinds and was known all over the country for his musical talent, playing in clubs such as the Hard Rock Cafe. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, photography, cooking and most of all, the beach. He had many friends and family who loved him dearly and will miss him sorely. He attended Belden First United Methodist Church.
A life celebration service will be at 11 a.m. today in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Danny Wilburn officiating. Private burial will follow in Belden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time today.

Robert Caldwell
TUPELO - Retired CW5 Robert B. "Bob" Caldwell, 69, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born Nov. 23, 1942, in Columbus to Albert Percy and Mary Josephine Bland Caldwell. He was a graduate of S.D. Lee High School in Columbus and attended Mississippi State University and University of Southern Mississippi, majoring in business administration. He retired from the Mississippi Army National Guard after 38 years of service as a maintenance test pilot. Following retirement from the military, he continued working as a pilot for The Hospital Wing air ambulance service in Memphis. He transferred back to Tupelo working as a pilot for Care Flight air ambulance services for five years with North Mississippi Medical Center. He was a cancer survivor and cherished every day. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was president of Tallulah Hunting Club north of Vicksburg. He was a member of the 100th Bomb Group Foundation, a charter member of the MOAA and served on the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Chapter of the 8th Air Force Historical Society. He loved to travel and cherished his friends and family. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Norris "Piggie" Caldwell's Sunday school class. He will be missed more than words can say.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. David Aldridge officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Adrian Leist Caldwell of Tupelo; two sons, Robert B. Caldwell Jr. (Laura) of Green Cove Springs, Fla., and Stan M. Sidney Green
MADRAS, Ore. - Sidney Fay Green, 93, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, in Madras, Ore. He was born in 1918 in New Site to Albert Sidney and Ercell Robinson Green. His family moved to Booneville when he was young, and he forever considered Booneville his hometown. A member of the first graduating class of the new Booneville High School in 1938, he tried his hand at farming for a while, then briefly attended college before enlisting in the U.S. Navy on Dec. 7, 1939. After a short break in service, he eventually served 27 years before his retirement. After retiring from the Navy, he worked at the Naval Air Rework Facility in San Diego, Calif. He remained in San Diego until 2001, when he moved with his daughter to Madras, Ore. He returned to Booneville for a short time to live at The Landmark assisted living facility. He returned to Oregon to be closer to his children.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lynn Jones officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery.
He is survived by his children, Rebecca Turner of Madras, Ore., James Sidney Green of Missoula, Mont., Doyle Wayne Green of Myrtle Creek, Ore., and Billi Chapman of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Euple Green Harding of Leeds, Ala.; three brothers, Clell Green of Cartersville, Ga., James Dudley "Jimmy" Green of Clinton and John Wayne Green of Booneville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Billia Joan Stephens Green; and a sister, Areta Green Burrage.

AMORY - Courtney Leigh Ann Houk, 21, died on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on March 1, 1990, in Columbus, she was the daughter of Bobbie Dianne Glover and the late Jessie Coy Sandlin. She attended Amory High School and graduated from ICC and Cisco Community College in Abilene, Texas.
Before working as a clerk at Food Giant, she had worked at Payless in Texas, at Knight's Snow Cones in the summers, and in sales at Best Buy. She was a member of Fig Hill Church of God. Fun-loving and on-the-go, she enjoyed fishing, swimming, spending time with her family and friends, riding around and gossiping with her friends. Always willing to help others, her pride and joy was her daughter, Addy.

She graduated from Lee Prentiss High School in Baldwyn in 1966 and from Mississippi Valley State College in 1970. She taught at Belden Headstart before teaching and retiring from Shannon Jr. High School in Shannon. She married Stanley Wright on June 7, 1975.

PONTOTOC - Lostine Inmon Fortner, 94, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Sunshine Health Services in Pontotoc. She was born in July 1917 in Pontotoc County to Buford and Lillie Zackery Inmon. She graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1937. She married Thomas Fortner in 1941. She had been a member of Cherry Creek Baptist Church since 1947, where she taught the adult ladies Sunday School and youth classes for many years. She taught school at Harmony for a year in the early days of her career. She was a longtime employee and supervisor at Joyner Fields Manufacturing in Sherman for 29 years. She also worked at Barclay Furniture before her retirement.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc with Minister Joe Herndon officiating. Burial will be in the Cherry Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include two sisters, Katherine Ard of Pontotoc and Opal Godwin of Decatur, Ga.; one brother, Lamar Inmon of Pottstown, Pa.; her nieces and nephews; and her caregivers, Patsy Sullivan and Pam Stevens.

VERONA - Muriel Ford Black, 89, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born May 5, 1922, in McCrory, Ark., to John Thomas and Eileen Pickett Ford. She was a graduate of Hillman High School in McCrory, Ark. A former resident of Indio, Calif., for 22 years, she has lived in Verona since 1977. She worked as a seamstress in the garment industry and enjoyed sewing. At the age of 75, she became very proficient at cross stitching. She enjoyed spending time with her great-grandson and her family who looked as their foundation. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Verona.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Verona with Dr. David Hamilton officiating. A family graveside service will be held in Woodman of the World Cemetery in McCrory, Ark., at a later date. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

NETTLETON - Billie Jo Wildman, 38, died Friday, Jan, 6, 2012, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on March 17, 1973, to Billy Wayne and Harriett Wildman. She had many hobbies which included latch hook and puzzles, word find, riding her four-wheeler and dining out.

Survivors include her parents, Billy and Harriett Wildman of Nettleton; her sister, Dianne Wildman (Missy Wilemon) of Nettleton; her brother, Jerry Wayne Wildman Sr. (Wanda) of Shannon; one niece, Brandy Baker (Jim) of Nettleton; three nephews, Jerry Wayne Wildman Jr. of Tupelo, Brad Wildman of Shannon and Corey Wilemon of Nettleton; four great-nieces; three great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Ocie Thomas, Lily Mae Wildman Reynolds and W.W. "Chuck" Wildman; her stepgrandfather, Scott Reynolds.
Pallbearers will be Calvin and James Earl Thomas, Brad and Jerry Wayne Wildman, Corey Wilemon and Jim Baker.

BOONEVILLE - Paul Russell Lindley 80, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Longwood Nursing Facility in Booneville. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and deeply loved his dog, Punch. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a Baptist.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Mark McCoy and Bro. Pete McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Prentiss Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by seven daughters, Linda Gann of Booneville, Wanda Harris (Tony) of Marietta,
Gina Ray of Wheeler, Rhonda White (Ronnie) of New Site, Donna Goddard (Dan) of Saltillo and Robbie and Angie of Ripley ; one son, Jerry Lindley (Mary) of Baldwyn; four sisters, Shirley Jones of Booneville, Madine White of Booneville, Effie Ryan (Curtis) of Saltillo and Evelyn Lindley (Thurman) of Booneville; one brother, Hollis Lindley (Earnestine) of Tupelo; 19 grandchildren; number of great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, V.E.and Emma Pate Lindley; two brothers, Bobby Lindley and Douglas Lindley; and two nieces, Debbie Lindley and Rhonda Button.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Ryan, Jake Chism, Matt Lindley, Thurman Bingham, Mike Lindley and Jerry Lindley.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandson, great-grandson, great-great-grandson and son-in-law, Dan Goddard.

Joan Gann
TUPELO - Joan Gann, 72, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. She was born Oct. 7, 1939, in Okolona to Henry Roger and Floise Gaskin. She was an accomplished seamstress, working for several garment factories but most of all she was a homemaker. She was a member of Carnation Baptist Church in Okolona. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking. She loved her family and the time they spent together.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Lowell Walker officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Guy Gann of Tupelo; one daughter, Cindy Stults (Terry) of Tupelo; two grandsons, Timothy Stults and Chris Stults both of Tupelo; one great-grandson, Preston Stults of Nettleton; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lois Alford; two brothers, Roger Gaskin and Oliver Gaskin.
Pallbearers will be Randy Holley, Billy Holley, Johnny Holley, Billy Curtis, Mike Jenkins, Sammy Knight, Tyler Gaskin, Ashley Gaskin and Tracy Stults. Honorary pallbearer will be Steve Gaskin.

NEW ALBANY - Voice Brown Bell Jr., 67, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at his residence. He was born Sept. 1, 1944, in Union County to Voice Brown Bell, Sr. and Grace Bailey Bell. He was a retired employee of the Mississippi Highway Department and a self-employed logger. He was a member of the Fredonia Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Keownville Baptist Church with the Rev. Faron Ash and Rev. Jerry Bishop officiating. Burial will be in the Keownville Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Bell of New Albany; a daughter, Kay Rakestraw (Johnny) of Wallerville; two sons, Richard Chism (Deborah) and Randy Chism (Pat), both of New Albany; a sister, Janis Bell Montague of Somerville, Tenn.; a brother, Mike Bell (Linda) of Ingomar; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
