Georgia Daniel

CLANTON, Ala. - Georgia Lee Reeder Daniel, 86, died Friday, May 4, 2012. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born May 15, 1925, in Pontotoc County. She moved to Clanton, Ala., in 1944, and worked as a bookkeeper and was also city clerk of Clanton for 18 years. She was an active member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church since 1946.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, William Curtis Daniel; two daughters, Glenda Daniel Anderson (Ben), Donna Daniel Hughes (Austin); four grandchildren, Kimberly Boyle (Chris), Kevin Anderson (Lindsay), Daniel Hughes, Laura Hayden (Jordy); one great-granddaughter, Avery Boyle; two sisters, Mary Ellen Brazil and Shirley Mathews; and a host of relatives and friends.

Services were Saturday in Clanton, Ala.

Ted Timms

KENOSHA, Wis. - Ted P. "Teddy" Timms, 61, of Kenosha, Wis., died Wednesday May 2, 2012, at Aurora St. Luke's in Milwaukee. He was born July 25, 1950, in Tupelo, the son of the late Horace and Molene (Prestage) Timms. He was employed at AMC/Chrysler for many years. He was also employed as a CNA at Clairidge House. His hobbies included, collecting coins, playing guitar, playing in bands and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Linda Blaine of Kenosha; his children, Eric and Cecil Jerdee and families of Milwaukee, Aaron (Melanie Delara) Timms of Kenosha, Anna (Tim) Sellers of Kenosha; his brother, Gene Timms of Mississippi; his grandchildren, Cameron, Colin and Elaina Timms, and Tevin, Mikayla, Tyres amp& Teejay Sellers; his nieces, Sandy (Mike) Moran, Tammy Gerber, Suzy Christian; and his nephews, Tracy Robinson, Ronnie "Jr" Ryan (Christy), Russel Timms.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie and Curtis Timms, and a sister, Peggy Robinson.

A greeting time with the family will be held 4 until 6 p.m. Friday at Kenosha Funeral Services, with memorial services to follow at 6 p.m.

Nel Justice

Amory - Nel Phillips Justice, 86, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Oak Tree Plantation. Born on March 16, 1926, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late William Gurdon and Oal Smith Phillips.

She was valedictorian of her class at Hatley High School in 1943. Marrying the love of her life, Arch Justice, on July 3, 1943, they remained dedicated to each other for almost 69 years. After 20 years of service, she retired as a loan teller with Security Bank of Amory. A member of Amory Church of Christ, she was a devoted Christian daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She lovingly cared for her aging parents and comforted many with an offer to listen and help in any way she could. A meek and graceful lady, she was all the good things a mother should be to her children. On July 19, 1970, Mrs. Justice graciously accepted her daughter-in-law, Melba Blair, into the family; they developed a rare and very loving and special relationship. Known to her granddaughters as "Gramby," many wonderful memories are treasured as she spoiled them as only a grandmother can. Mrs. Justice enjoyed traveling to the beach and the mountains, visiting family in Maryland, especially at Christmas, sewing and tending to her rose garden.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m., today at Amory Church of Christ with Leslie Grant and Philip Hathcock, ministers, officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dexter Butler, Glen Bingham, Wayne Howell, Jackie Palmer, Doug Hoots and Jerry Cooper.

Visitation will continue until the service hour today.

She is survived by her husband, Arch Justice, Amory; son, Mike (Melba) Justice, Westminster, Md.; granddaughters and great-grandsons, Rachel (Ron) Fairchild, Adam and Matthew, Hampstead, Md.; Christy (Joe) Vadder, Henry and Michael, Manchester, Md.; brother, Don (Ellen) Phillips, Amory; sisters-in-law, Merle Vaughn and Sue Justice, Amory; numerous nieces and nephews; and dedicated friends, Glo Buie and Grace Thomas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Justice; sister, Frances Faulkner; and brother, Wilbur Phillips.

Juanita Monaghan

TUPELO - Mrs. Juanita Monaghan, 77, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Rosewood Assisted Living after an extended illness.

She was a native of Lee County. She was born on January 27, 1935 to the late Bud and Ellie Gray. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was full of life and loved exercising and taking care of herself and her family. She was the light of our lives and will be greatly missed. She was a faithful member of East Heights Baptist Church.

A celebration service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2012 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Rev. Terry Ledbetter officiating. Burial will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Survivors include her husband of forty-nine years, Wayne Monaghan; two daughters, Ramona Hunter and husband Mitch and Sandra Ward and husband Eddie, all of Tupelo; six grandchildren, Drew, Whitney, and Blake Hunter and Faith Ohlinger and husband Keith, Stephen and Michael Ward; two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Zach Ohlinger; one brother, Joe Gray and wife Vickie of Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Sue Gray; four brothers, bud Gray, Jr., Lewis Gray, James Gray, and Charles Davis.

Virginia Scherff

Holly Springs - Virginia Coleen Nance Scherff, loving wife, mother and faithful servant of God, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, May 4, 2012. Virginia was born June 13, 1936 to Carl and Modeen Nance and died at the age of 75. Virginia was born in Ripley, Miss. and spent most of her adult life in Holly Springs.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Montie Gleen Scherff. The Rev. and Mrs. Scherff were married for more than 57 years. The Rev. Scherff led and pastored the Evangel Full Gospel Church in Holly Springs for 47 years. Together, they raised seven children and were later blessed with 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Virginia is survived by her son, Carl Scherff of Tupelo; daughter Clarissa Scherff Dunn of Medina, Tenn.; son, Virgil Scherff of Waterford; son, Frederick Scherff of Florence; son, Jerry Palmer of Ripley; and son Timothy Scherff of Ripley. She was preceded in death by her son Mark Palmer of Booneville; and her brother, Jim Nance Sr. of Memphis, Tenn.

Freddie Robinson

DECATUR, Ala. - Freddie Robinson, 77, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at her residence. She was born Feb. 15, 1934 to Wilburn Middleton and Thelma Fife Middleton, in Besty Layne, Ky. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very artistic, creative, an avid gardener and a member of Central Baptist Church.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Church with Dr. Rob Jackson officiating. Entombment will be in East Lawrence Cemetery.

NEW ALBANY - Betty Burleson Daniel, 61, died Saturday, May 5, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Union County. She was born Sept. 22, 1950, in Tupelo to Imogene McCarty Burleson and the late Ervin Edward Burleson. She was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and a teacher assistant at New Albany Middle School.

Nelda Owings

HAMILTON - Nelda Reeder Owings, 95, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at her daughter's residence in Caledonia. She was born April 23, 1917, to Elon Reeder and Annie Mae Cockrell Reeder in Houlka. She lived most of her life in Hamilton. She graduated from Houlka High School, Moorehead Jr. College and Delta State University. During World War II, she worked in the lab at the Gulf Ordinance Plant in Prairie. She retired after 42 years as a school teacher at Hamilton School. She taught three years at Buena Vista. She had a positive impact on the lives of her students and was highly respected by all those with whom she worked.She was a member and past pianist at Hamilton United Methodist Church and a former Sunday school teacher. She was chosen Outstanding Citizen of the Hamilton Community in 1982. She loved her church family and spending time with family and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Roger McGrew officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery.

TUPELO - Katie Beth Carruth, 21, died Friday, May 4, 2012. She was born July 27, 1990, in New Albany to Jeff and Camille Carruth. Katy Beth graduated in 2009 from Tupelo High School and was a junior at Mississippi State University. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Katie Beth will be remembered for her funny personality, loud laughter, quick wit and her beautiful singing voice. She loved her family and friends, writing songs, playing her guitar but especially loved growing in her faith and love of God.

Red Vandevander

SHANNON - Albert Lee "Red" Vandevander, 76, was seen leaving this world to join his precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 4, 2012. Red was born on June 17, 1935 in Prentiss County. He was a 1954 graduate of Shannon High School and a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church where he frequently sang solos. A longtime member of the Mississippi National Guard, he was also a Mason affiliated with Prairie Lodge #86 in Okolona. He was retired from Futorian in Okolona after 26 years of service. An avid Mississippi State fan, Red loved his family and had so many friends. He was truly a "Jack of all trades" and a domino professional.

A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Bert Harper and Bro. Tommy Whaley officiating. His sons, Phillip and Brian will deliver eulogies. Bro. Clyde Lane Patton will conduct the private committal service in Union Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery west of Shannon. Red is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruby Nell Weeks Vandevander; two sons, Phillip (Rene) Vandevander of Tupelo and Brian (Kim) Vandevander of Steele, AL; three grandchildren, Corey Vandevander, Callie Vandevander, and Jesse Hankins and a great-grandchild, Kingston Hankins. He is preceded in death by his parents, B.J. and Mary Lee Vandevander; a sister: Brenda Jo two grandchildren, Easton Joel and Presley Grace Vandevander; a sister-in-law, Sandra Pannell and brother-in-law, Guy E. Weeks.
