Dr. Malcolm Moore Sr.

TUPELO – Dr. Malcolm Sidney Moore, Sr., M.D., 78, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at home after an extended illness. He was born in Fulton, Mississippi on October 8, 1933 to the late Archie Asberry Moore and the late Verna Ann Moore. During World War II, he and his family lived in Michigan and California before returning to Tupelo, where Malcolm graduated from Tupelo High School in 1951. He was attending the University of Mississippi when he was accepted early to medical school at the University of Mississippi. He graduated from medical school in 1958, as a proud member of only the second four-year medical school class in the history of the University. Two weeks after graduation, he married his sweetheart and classmate, Nell Crawford, in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. Drs. Nell and Malcolm interned in General Practice at Greenville General Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina. After completing their internship, the family moved back to Tupelo where Malcolm opened his first medical office on South Gloster Street on his 26th birthday.

In 1966, he was elected and served as the Chief of Staff of the North Mississippi Community Hospital, which later changed its name to the North Mississippi Medical Center. During his tenure as Chief of Staff, he participated in national meetings related to the creation of the Medicare system. He was a Diplomat, Charter Member and Fellow of the American Board of Family Practice when the Board was first created in 1969. He was instrumental in establishing the Family Practice Department at the North Mississippi Medical Center, serving as the first Chairman of that Department. He served as President of the Mississippi Family Practice Association from 1987 to 1988. He was a member of the Northeast Mississippi Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, the Mississippi State Medical Association and the American Medical Association. He retired in 2001 after practicing family medicine in Tupelo for 42 years. He continued to serve on the Board of Directors of the North Mississippi Medical Center until his death. Even with all of those accomplishments, when once asked what he was most proud of in his years of service, he replied, "My children".

He has been a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1950, being among the first to be baptized at the church after it was established in 1935. He was also a past member of the Tupelo Community Development Foundation.

Malcolm enjoyed playing tennis, golf, hunting and fishing. He was on the Tupelo High School tennis team and taught tennis at the Tupelo City Parks in his youth. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and pets. His family, friends, colleagues and patients enjoyed his keen sense of humor, his warm smile and his unselfish commitment.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. David Eldridge officiating. Dr. William Hilbun will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be private at a later date.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nell Crawford Moore, whom he married on June 21, 1958; by his five children, Malcolm Sidney Moore, Jr., M.D. of Macon, GA, Marcus Claude Moore, CFP and wife Carrie of Keller, TX, Teresa Moore Mendenhall, M.D. and husband Bill of Jackson, MS, Samuel Archie Moore and wife Dianna of Flower Mound, TX, and Margaret Moore Cook, J.D. and husband Kevin of Highlands Ranch, CO; and by his nine granddaughters, Madison Moore of Atlanta, GA and Marion Moore of Macon, GA, Mandy Moore and Maggie Moore of Keller, TX, Ann Mendenhall and Meg Mendenhall of Jackson, MS, and Mary Ella Moore, Annie Moore and Samantha Moore of Flower Mound, TX. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Edward Moore, Sr., D.D.S. and his wife Azalia of Tupelo, MS.

Honorary pallbearers are physicians of Northeast Mississippi and members of the Calvary Baptist Church Senior Adults Men’s Sunday School Class. The family is deeply appreciative of the care and support provided by Dr. Andrew Kellum, Dr. Bill Hilbun, Dr. Pat Ewing, Dr. Paul Farabaugh, Dr. Jay Dey, and the home hospice service of the North Mississippi Medical Center.

Visitation will be from 1 – 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the funeral home, 535 W. Jefferson Street, Tupelo, MS 38804.

William Self

THAXTON - William Bill Thomas Self, 91, died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital -Union County Hospital in New Albany. He was born Jan. 4, 1921, in Pontotoc county, to Hubert Daniel Self and Josie Sidney Gordon Self. He was a Army Veteran and served during World War II. He was a farmer and a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ at Pinedale. He enjoyed picking the guitar, singing at the court house square and loved life, singing and music.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Raymond Bishop and Rev. James Holmes officiating. Burial will be in the Glenfield Memorial Park.

He is survived by one daughter, Vivian Tackett (Gary) of Water Valley; six sons, Jerry Self (Shirley) of Water Valley, Troy Self (Melissa) of Water Valley, Billy Self (Donna) of Byhalia, George Self (Sue) of Batesville, Bradley Self (Tammy) of Thaxton and David Self (Cindy) of New Albany; two sisters, Mary Graham and Lilly Ashworth of Pontotoc; two brothers, Laron Self of Algoma and Lamar Self of Alabama; 27 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Thomas Self; and two brothers, Arron Self and Vardie Self.

Pallbearers will be Jeffery Holmes, B.J. Self, Kevin Self, Michael Self, Keith Self, Mike Self, Kenny Self, John Mask, Jason Taylor and Blake Self. The American Legion Post #72 will serve as honorary pallbearers.

INGOMAR - Payton John Murry, 10, died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital- Union County in New Albany. He was born on Jan. 15, 2002, to Edward Larry Murry and Christy Stout Murry in Tupelo. He was a student at Ingomar Attendance Center. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, a member of Liberty Baptist Children Group, a member of Ingomar Special Olympics, a member of Frog-A-Nanny and a true blue Ingomar Falcon Fan.

He is survived by his parents, Edward and Christy Murry of Ecru; one sister, Brooklyn LeAnn Murry of Ecru; maternal grandparents, Harvey and Judy Stout of Ecru; paternal grandparents, Larry and Rebecca Murry of Blue Springs; grandmother, Peggy Ford of Potts Camp; grandfather Johnny Wallace of Hattisburg; and special loved ones, Aunt Karen Stout Dyson, Pa Pa Billy and Mama Carol.

CORINTH - Marie Adams, 86, died Sunday, May, 20, 2012, at Mississippi Care Center. She was a LPN and worked for the Methodist Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and Columbus Hospital. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Rienzi.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Bro. Kenney McGill officiating. Internment is at Pisgah Cemetery.

She is survived by her sons, James Wilson (Linda) of Hawkensville, Ga., Jackie Willson of Birmingham, Ala., and Larry Wilson (Teresa) of Jackson, Tenn.; sisters, Mary Hopper of Kossuth and Mildred Powers of Corinth; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Adams; parents, Fred and Sarah Russell Davis; brothers, Frank Morris, Gene Davis, Cleatus Davis, Leland and Vewin Davis; and sisters, Nelda Chaney, Minnie Mae Morow and Earlene Grimes.

Teresa Tigner

BALDWYN - Teresa Kay Foster Tigner, 52, died Saturday May 19, 2012, at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. She was a Baptist and a seamstress for Bauhaus. She enjoyed cooking, camping, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. today at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Peyton Meeks officiating with burial in the Pratt Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Mike Tigner of Baldwyn; three children, Britt Tigner (Sylvia) of Baldwyn, Chris Tigner (Stacy)of Baldwyn and Jessie Tigner (JR) of Wheeler; brother, Cliff Foster of Baldwyn; two sisters, Angie Tigner (Tyra) of Baldwyn and Eve Foster of Mantachie; grandchildren, Chandler Tigner, Blazya Tigner, Neal Tigner, Alahanna Tigner, Braxton Tigner, Jacob Barnes and Arayla Metford; 10 nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, D.C. Foster amp& Margaret Liz Myhand.

Pallbearers are David Clouse, Billy Williams, Rex Myhand, Lee Hulsey, Alan Myhand and James Coogle. Honorary pallbearer is J.R. McCellan.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. until service time today.

MINOT, N.D. - Danni Louise Mitchell Weidert, 79, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, in Minot N.D.
