Dr. Malcolm Moore Sr.

TUPELO – Dr. Malcolm Sidney Moore, Sr., M.D., 78, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at home after an extended illness. He was born in Fulton, Mississippi on October 8, 1933 to the late Archie Asberry Moore and the late Verna Ann Moore. During World War II, he and his family lived in Michigan and California before returning to Tupelo, where Malcolm graduated from Tupelo High School in 1951. He was attending the University of Mississippi when he was accepted early to medical school at the University of Mississippi. After completing their internship, the family moved back to Tupelo where Malcolm opened his first medical office on South Gloster Street on his 26th birthday.

He retired in 2001 after practicing family medicine in Tupelo for 42 years. He continued to serve on the Board of Directors of the North Mississippi Medical Center until his death. Even with all of those accomplishments, when once asked what he was most proud of in his years of service, he replied, "My children".

He has been a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1950, being among the first to be baptized at the church after it was established in 1935. He was also a past member of the Tupelo Community Development Foundation.

Malcolm enjoyed playing tennis, golf, hunting and fishing. He was on the Tupelo High School tennis team and taught tennis at the Tupelo City Parks in his youth.
