He was a former Prentiss County sheriff, a farmer and the former owner of Davis Welding & Mechanical Shop.

Davis of Baldwyn and Billy (Doris) Davis of Guntown; seven grandchildren, Rex McKee, Jennifer Knowles, Kayce Hale, Eric Davis, Derick Davis, Ray Davis and Robert Davis; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Charlotte Davis of Baldwyn; two brother-in-laws, Tony (Shirley) Franks of Winona and Joe (Linda) Franks of Tupelo; special caregivers, Stella Holland, Ollie Bean and Sadie Leach.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Franks Davis; his parents; one sister, Edith Cruse; one brother, Gayle Davis; two sisters-in-law, Zelia Davis and Yvonne Davis; two brothers-in-law, Billy Kimbrough and Gene Cruse; and one special nephew, Kip Davis.

NEW ALBANY – Andrew Lavell "Whit" Whittington, 77, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Sept. 24, 1934, in Leake County to Glover E. and Maude Jordan Whittington. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in New Albany and the Rogers Sunday School class. He was retired from Mississippi State Extension Service and Piper Impact and was currently serving as pastor's assistant at First United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University.

BLUE SPRINGS – Amber Shaunta Treadaway Sparks, 31, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in the Macedonia community of Lee County. She was born May 1, 1981, in Tupelo yo Tony Lynn Treadaway and Tonya Rena’ Daniels Treadaway. She lived most of her life in the Tupelo area, where she worked through Express Temporary Employment Agency. She loved all types of music, outdoors, swimming and camping, four-wheeling, and playing volleyball. She was a loving daughter, granddaughter, mother, and sister. She was of Baptist faith.
A celebration of life service will be at 3 p.m. today in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Joe Gullick officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery near Blue Springs. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time today.

OXFORD – Ernest William McLellan III, 79, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at his residence in Oxford. Born in Yazoo City, he was a 1954 graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering. He served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He was a retired industrial engineer for Holley Carbueretor. He was a member of the Oxford-University United Methodist Church, American Legion and MSU Alumni Association. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler; deer hunting at the Zero Kennels Hunting Club in Grenada, of which he was the founding president 55 years ago; the outdoors; and cooking for his family.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy McLellan of Oxford; a son, Ernie McLellan (Tonda) of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was born April 3, 1950, to Margaret Hussey Ross and the late Benjamin Franklin Ross Sr. He accepted Christ as his savior at age 12 and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Columbus. He graduated from Lee High School in Columbus and attended East Mississippi Community College for two years. He served four years in the United States Air Force, serving 18 months in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Weber Marine in Darrow, La.

Services were Wednesday, May 30, at National Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Burial was in Shelby Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Kelly Johnson (Lowell) of Tupelo; one son, Michael Walton of Lambert; grandson, Wayne Kelly (Samantha) of Tupelo; granddaughter, Stephanie Cagle (Jerrod) of Baldwyn; granddaughter-in-law, Elizabeth Kelly of Dorsey; five great-grandchildren, Jake, Casey and Jade Cagle of Baldwyn, and Caitlyn and Josh Kelly of Dorsey.
