The bureau won the Southeast Tourism Society’s award of CVB of the Year in the category of CVBs with a budget of $2 million to $5 million. The award was announced Thursday night at the annual “Shining Examples” awards dinner in Virginia Beach.
The award recognizes overall performance of an organization showing demonstrable accomplishments through effective tourism marketing.
“I am thrilled for the Tupelo CVB to receive this award,” said Neal McCoy, executive director of Tupelo CVB. “I can not say enough how proud I am of the staff. We have had enough obstacles to overcome. I’m honored to be a leader of this group.”
The majority of the CVB staffers made the trip to the annual conference to attend the educational sessions and to accept Thursday’s award.
“It’s something we wanted to do to share in the recognition from their peers,” McCoy said.
Last month, the Tupelo CVB won the state’s top CVB of year in its division. Thursday’s award honored Tupelo as the best of its size in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia and Arkansas.
The Tupelo CVB was recognized for its yearlong travel market research study that resulted in a restructuring of the staff and a refocusing of the CVB’s strategy. It also was recognized for its integrated marketing plan to help Tupelo grow the Elvis brand.
Plus, the CVB stood out because it created a tourism leadership program for Tupelo’s service industry and it developed an event promotion campaign with a match grant program to help promote events and festivals.
