Two men used a heavy chain and a pickup truck to drag a safe out of a Dollar General store on Dec. 10 in Thaxton, between Oxford and Tupelo, and on Dec. 24 in Kossuth, about 10 miles southwest of Corinth, investigators told The Daily Corinthian.
In Eastview, Tenn., about 65 miles from Kossuth, a store in the same chain was robbed Dec. 21 by thieves who entered through the back, cut the safe open and left with a significant amount of cash, McNairy County Sheriff Department Investigator Robert Hitchborn said.
"It took them about three minutes," he said.
Alcorn County sheriff's investigator Reggie Anderson said he believes the crimes in Kossuth and in Pontotoc County are related. Two men with a white pickup truck apparently committed both break-ins, he said.
In Kossuth, he said, "it appeared no merchandise was missing. Evidence shows that two white subjects entered the front of the store and pulled the safe out with some type of logging chain."
