OXFORD – A July 22 trial start was set today for a lawsuit alleging that adults knew of sexual molestations by former Smithville coach Dwight Bowling.

Senior U.S. District Judge Neal B. Biggers Jr. set the trial to begin at 9:30 a.m. in Oxford.

A man, who claims he was molested as a child by Bowling, sued the former coach, the Monroe County School District and various school officials whom he claims refused to do anything after they were told about misconduct.

The defendants deny the allegations.

Bowling continues serving a lengthy federal prison sentence after 2011 guilty pleas to taking minors across state lines for sex and to witness tampering.

He also faces state prison time, if and when he completes the federal sentence.
