SHANNON – Shannon used its final opportunity Tuesday to erase the zero from Corinth’s perfect division record.

The Red Raiders beat the visiting Warriors 69-61 in the final Division 1-4A game for both teams.

“We haven’t been playing well the last couple of weeks,” Shannon coach Cedric Brim said. “We had some people step up.”

Corinth (18-6, 9-1) finished atop the division, Shannon (19-6, 8-2) second. Corinth handed the Red Raiders a 14-point loss earlier this season at Corinth.

Rocquis Coleman made a floater in the lane for a 57-51 lead with 5:23 left. Jalen Thomas put the exclamation point on with an emphatic slam in traffic for an eight-point lead.

“We did a good job rebounding the basketball,” Brim said. “Alex Metcalf had a real good night rebounding. Rocquis ran the team well.”

Lakee Westbrook had a game-high 20 for Shannon. Metcalf scored 17 and Coleman 14.

Metcalf cleaned up a missed alley oop for a 61-51 lead.

Jose Contreras’ 3-pointer cut the lead to six for Corinth and a Darius Gaines’ lay-in off a steal cut it to 51-47 after three.

“In the third, we wanted to establish something to get back in it, but had a turnover right off the bat and they hit two 3s back-to-back,” Corinth coach Keith Greene said. “It wasn’t our night.”

Desmin Harris had 18 for Corinth, Antares Gwyn 11, Kendrick Williams 10.

(G) Shannon 61, Corinth 49: Shannon led 41-38 after three. Alexandrea Metcalf had 24 points to lead the Lady Raiders (13-5, 6-4) who finished third in the division.

Corinth (9-11, 4-6) got 19 from Aspen Stricklen.
