Man pleads guilty to charge of stealing copper

OXFORD — Federal court records say a man has pleaded guilty to one count of stealing thousands of dollars in copper from farm irrigation pivots in Mississippi and selling it in Arkansas.

Curtis Tigues pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Oxford. He will be sentenced later.

Tigues and Ernest Calvin were indicted Oct. 25. Calvin's trial is set for March 4.

Authorities say Tigues is from Inverness and Calvin is from Belzoni.

The indictments say that Tigues and Calvin each sold more than 300 pounds of copper for scrap in Lake Village, Ark., in December 2010.
